Caretaker

Overview

Under the instruction/guidance of the Estates and Facilities Manager; provide maintenance & security services of the College’s estates. Oversee the day-to-day control of cleanliness, heating and lighting and maintain a safe environment for students, staff and visitors.

Role Profile

  • At all times, ensuring that work undertaken is in line with Health and Safety Regulations
  • Responsibility under the Health and Safety at Work Act for users of the site
  • The promotion and maintenance of a clean, tidy, safe and hygienic College environment which gives a positive image of the College to students, staff, parents and visitors
  • The following of the College’s policies and procedures
  • Cleaning interior College buildings as routine
  • Making areas safe and dealing with emergency situations which arise such as spillages and broken windows
  • Cleaning of building windows both internally and external
  • Care of exterior areas, including the removal of litter
  • Inspection and clearing of drains and gutters
  • The maintenance of buildings and College fixtures and fittings, including the fixture of locks and windows and other minor repairs.
  • The operation of the buildings’ heating systems and ventilation systems
  • The care of the internal and external lighting system including the changing of bulbs
  • The routine maintenance of the College swimming pool including the filtration plant, chemical testing, cleaning, applying covers (training given)
  • The security of the premises, including locking and unlocking of the buildings and site
  • Moving and removal of furniture and the like
  • Porterage of deliveries, furniture etc and any other tasks as appropriate
  • The testing of fire alarm system on a regular basis
  • Being part of the fire team; reacting where there is a fire alarm by identifying the area concerned, taking appropriate action by helping clear the area, identifying the risk concerned, putting right in the case of a false alarm or helping tackle a small fire where it is reasonable and safe to do so, without putting anyone, including yourself, in danger
  • The setting-out of rooms for functions of the College and its lettings
  • Setting the College clock, ensuring the time is correct and that it is programmed to sound at the appropriate times
  • Preparation of surfaces and painting of wall, skirting boards, doors architraves and the like
  • Safety checks and cleaning of the College minibus/vehicles
  • Clearing snow and gritting areas as required
  • Administration connected with the performance of the duties of this post
  • Available for emergency call-out both during contractual hours and when the College is closed
  • Will be expected to undertake first aid as required
  • Adhere to the College’s and Trust compliance Systems
  • Day to day upkeep of the College’s fire, legionella and Asbestos files

Salary & Terms

37 hours per week all year round £23500 - £23893
