Family Support Worker

Overview

We are now seeking an experienced, compassionate and driven Family Support Worker to join our dedicated team. This is a key leadership role within our pastoral structure — ideal for someone with a passion for inclusion, family engagement and improving outcomes for all children.

Monday - Friday 8:00 - 16:00 (35 hours per week)

Job Advert & Description

This is a varied, fulfilling position where no two days are the same. As our Family Support Worker you will play a pivotal role in supporting families, removing barriers to learning and ensuring that every child attends school regularly, ready to learn and thrive.

You will:

Attendance Leadership

- Lead on all aspects of attendance and punctuality, ensuring our children benefit from consistent learning and routine.

- Monitor, track and analyse attendance data, identifying patterns and developing targeted strategies to improve attendance.

- Work directly with pupils and families experiencing persistent absence, offering support and challenge where appropriate.

- Produce regular reports for the Headteacher and Governors on attendance trends and the impact of interventions.

Family Support & Early Help

- Build positive, trusting relationships with children, parents and carers to support engagement and wellbeing.

- Lead and manage the support for vulnerable families, ensuring early and effective support.

- Undertake home visits, working sensitively and professionally with families to identify needs and offer practical guidance.

- Work collaboratively with a range of agencies including Early Help, Attendance Officers, Health Professionals, Social Care, and Community Organisations to deliver coordinated, high-quality support.

Safeguarding Leadership

- Serve as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL), working closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all children.

- Act as a key point of contact for safeguarding concerns, maintaining accurate and confidential records.

- Attend and contribute to case conferences, child protection meetings and multi-agency discussions.

- Model best practice in safeguarding and support staff in developing their confidence and vigilance.

Breakfast Club Management

- Lead and manage the daily operation of the school’s Breakfast Club, ensuring a safe, welcoming and nurturing start to each child’s day.

- Oversee staff, routines and resources, promoting positive behaviour and healthy choices.

- Work with families to encourage attendance and punctuality through engagement with the Breakfast Club provision.

Wider School Contribution

- Be an ambassador for St Matthew’s, promoting our inclusive ethos and Gospel values in every aspect of your work.

- Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff and governors to foster a culture of high expectations, compassion and belonging.

- Contribute to the ongoing development of pastoral systems and initiatives that strengthen our community.

Salary from £22414 to £25031 per year
